Youth’s Mementos

Floating through a grass filled sky

Like the white winged dove

Today’s prompts (grass / dove/ memento) immediately launched my mind back to my wayward youth. So thanks for the memories Ronovan Writes and Linda’s Just Jot January Challenge and Daisy Smile Face

And thanks to Stevie for being Stevie!

The Music Stills

to fly is a gift

an eruption to behold

till gravity speaks

in its imperious voice

and stills the music of flight

That (this) darn cannon was still on my mind this morning. So my tanka offering is a mash up between yesterday’s story (and word prompts) and today’s. Cheating? Maybe. But I woke up with it half formed in mind and it needed to be finished! Check out yesterday’s Flash Fiction for the companion story. It explains the cannon 😉 https://tinastewartbrakebill.com/2018/12/07/buon-viaggio/

So thanks again to yesterday’s prompts at WOTD (eruption) and One Daily Prompt (gift)

And today’s prompts from One Daily Prompt (imperious) and Linda’s SoCS (musical)

Their Home

She sat at the edge of the stream and stared at the house. Their home.

The tumbling water reminded her of a song. She could hear the melody in her head. But the words just wouldn’t come. It’s not fair. Songs are not her department. TV shows and historical facts. But not songs. That’s his lane.

He’s supposed to be here. He would know.

But he’s no longer here. Or there. In that house that was their home.

For just a moment she was overwhelmed by anger. Then frustration. But that stupid song would have to wait.

It was time.

Many many years ago, a girl met a boy at a bar. All summer long, they drank rum and danced to David Bowie and sang with the Heads. Then summer ended. But the girl didn’t go home. She stayed because like Chaka Khan says “Ain’t Nobody.”

Ain’t nobody
Loves me better
Makes me happy
Makes me feel this way
Ain’t nobody
Loves me better than you

Happy Anniversary to my love. Happy Birthday to my love.

Thanks for the perfect writing prompt! Putting my Feet in the Dirt

People of St Pete: Bob Devin Jones

Oops! Time got away from me and I almost forgot to post this. My “day job” (which I love) once again gave me the opportunity to spend some time with an interesting, passionate, smart, and funny person. And I loved it.

My People of St. Pete column for July focused on the absolutely fabulous Bob Devin Jones. We met for coffee (me) and tea (Bob Devin) at the wonderful downtown Craft Kafe on Central Ave and squeezed every second out of our hour-long chat. Bob Devin is a fascinating guy and arguably one of the main reasons St. Pete is enjoying such a cultural renaissance. He makes me smile and think! And that’s a perfect combo in my book.
