glass ceilings shatter
and chains of oppression fall
granting space for all

Thanks to Ronovan Writes for the challenge to write a haiku using glass and breaks (for which I subbed in shatter).

Like sheep we follow
Ignoring the other’s cries
Till they come for us

After this past week, I fear (even more than I did before) for the survival of our democracy. When we allow the president to act outside the law, how can we claim to be a nation of laws. When we actively persecute people who are not “appropriately” straight, adequately white, and the “right” kind of Christian, then how can we claim to be exceptional? When we support (or ignore) an administration that consistently places profit over the health and safety of humanity and they very survival of our planet, how can we claim “greatness.”
I fear.
Thanks to Ronovan Writes for the venue to vent. Our words this week are “sheep” and “weep” for which I substituted ‘cries.’
The world spins around
Bringing a spark of new hope
As fuel for the flames

I’ve been WP MIA for a couple of weeks. Between the heat and the constant rain and the general state of our world, I’ve been uninspired or depressed or lethargic. “Whatever” has been my go-to feeling of late. Ugh. But I’m trying to lift myself out of it. So thanks to Sue’s beautiful photo challenge for giving me a hopeful image to go along with the spark of hope coming out of Puerto Rico.
I’ll leave you with my title inspiration-Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come.”
Peace.
Its big eyes just stared unblinking for a minute. “What do you call yourself?” the Fawn said at last.
Its tone surprised me. Such a soft sweet voice it had! Oozed like honey. Regret briefly crossed my mind. I pushed it back. “Doesn’t matter.” I replied. “I’m just following orders.”

This 50 word piece of Flash Fiction was inspired by the 50 word Thursday Challenge. Hosted this week by Tales from the mind of Kristian

tension escalates
the battle is upon us
as she rises up

I’ve struggled this past week or so. No muse or no hope or no energy … or all of the above. The world has got me down. But I’m determined to rise back up so thanks to Ronovan Writes for the word inspiration (friction and action for which I substituted tension and battle) and Suzi at I Write Her for the fantastic photo prompt courtesy of Dani Olivier
