disgruntled by the calendar change, Julian calls out the Gregorian monks

Not fair, Julian chants

In a monophonic tone

A treaty was struck

They got the steady back beat

I got the days of the week

1 Gregorian-Calendar-181b3ad

Yes, I know that it was Julias Caesar (not “julian”) who adopted the Julian calendar, but I am imaging an irate talking (chanting) calendar. 😉

Thanks to Linda’s annual JusJoJan prompt for the opportunity to have some fun with (some slightly ahistorical) calendar trivia. For the real story, visit Britannica.com.

a new year comes to florida

Shooting guns.

Exploding stars.

Drunken girls scream woo!

Another downtown Saturday night?

Or the sounds of new year’s mo(u)rn?

Thanks to Fake Flamenco’s New Years Challenge which asked us to “write about what the new year means to you.. We will write 5–7 lines of free verse for either subject.”

And to Linda Hill’s JusJotJan challenge I admit I cheated a little and used “stars” instead of constellation. The rhythm got me 😉

Visit their sites for further info and great writing. And Happy New Year y’all.

Thanks to Ronovan Writes for the word inspiration (seek/find).

And here’s hoping for a new and better year–where people come together and create change. Let this be the year that sees him (and his enablers) gone!

Peace.

The Luck of a New Year

Singularity
Expanding in space and time
As day dawns again

As day dawn again
Spinning ‘round the milky way
A new year is born

A new year is born
As space and time expanded
Singular no more

This cascading style haiku was inspired by Heeding Haiku’s Challenge to write a haiku incorporating the idea of good luck and by Sue’s Photo Prompt.

Seeing Sue’s picture made me think of our good luck that the Big Bang (AKA theory of singularity) gave us this beautiful world as well as the space and time we live in.

Here’s hoping we do a better job of stewardship in the coming year.
