but we’ve already lost

This month marks the the anniversary of the Kent State and Jackson State killings. This week, another shooter shot up another campus and the week before that another shooter shot up … and so on and so on…. Plus, I live in Florida where the @#*#@ legislature passed some truly awful things this week including arming teachers and stripping away voting rights with what is essentially a poll tax! I’m in a hopeless kind of mood and Linda’s SoCS prompt to write about something that “falls from the sky” and Fandango’s FOWC prompt “battle” inspired this sad little haiku.

It’s very depressing, isn’t it, that those who feel that gun rights are so critical to the American democracy refuse to feel the same way about voting rights.

Exactly! Florida voters overwhelmingly approved the amendment restoring voting rights. I don’t even understand how they have the legal right to do what they’re doing. It’s frickin criminal. I love my city but I hate so much about florida politics 😖

As if teachers didn’t already have enough to worry about, now they have to start carrying weapons? I have to smh at what I see coming out of FL time after time. The ongoing shooting incidents are symptoms of a dying society.

Thankfully there’s some leeway in how it’s implemented. Not all florida counties (including mine) are going along with it but still … 😡

My wheels haven’t stopped turning. As a former high school teacher I am trying to get my head around this. Teachers are not paid enough for this responsibility.
