Tanka Tuesday-Each Day

as gold turns to ash

the barren branches quiver

but the green may wane

as spring can bring a swift frost

and each day may be our last

the return of the exiled wannabe king

rough like bark and brush

babbling water turns putrid

as the snake returns

with false speech and slight of hand

his rap still charms the sparrows
