Haiku & Other Poetry, tutto e niente

only the grass

and the foolish close their eyes

only the grass aches

This haiku set was inspired by current times. Read into them what you will.

Thanks to FOWC and the prompt of “crazy” for which I substituted “foolish.” (Hope that’s OK with Fandango!)  And thanks to NaPoWriMo and their challenge to find an idiomatic phrase from a different language or culture and use it as the jumping-off point for your poem. I chose the following:

Kenyan proverb: “When elephants fight, it is the grass that gets hurt.”

Meaning: Fights between the powerful only hurt the little guy.

they said

never fear they said

just follow the path they said

no defeat they said

straight on to glory they said

only whispers now (they said)

crown-1

Perhaps it’s my current state of mind, but the photo brought to mind fallen armies and (for you Tolkien fans) barrow-wights so … here we are. Thanks to Sue for the inspiration. And remember all depressing interpretations are my own! 😉

Then Chaos

I originally wrote this way back in June of 2018 but it still (sadly) fits my mood AND although it may be bending the rules a bit to use an old piece, it (more happily) perfectly fits Linda’s final JusJoJan prompt “chaos”.

Thanks Linda. Sorry I wasn’t more present in January but … well you know. CHAOS.
