Thanks to FOWC and Ronovan Writes for the prompts.

And for the record, this is not a reflection on my marriage, which is alive and happy,  maybe because we never promised to “obey.”  😉

My First Crush

to discover words

opens your mind to wonder

and your heart to love

autumn-018-2

Thanks to The Haunted Wordsmith and Sue Vincent for the great photo prompts. In the midst of the chaos of … well everything, both of these picture reminded me of the sweet calm of my “happy place”–reading. Books really were my first love. The library (and all the wonderful librarians I have known in my life) will always hold a special place in my heart and mind.

The Year I Was Five

The year I was five my grandfather left the house every day before dawn. My mom would pack his green cooler with food. He’d put on his boots, grab his yellow bag of tools, and then head out the door with his guide dog Bud and a cheery “Going to guard the castle.”

Every day I’d beg to come along. And every day he’d tell me “maybe when you’re older.”

Then one day, Bud came home but my grandfather didn’t. So I followed Bud back to the castle.

It was just as I always imagined. Except for the flashing lights.

Trying to get my mojo back today and the confluence of prompts from SoCS (mean) and Putting my Feet in the Dirt (captivating confines) and FOWC (disrupt) helped do the trick! Thanks y’all.
