Are you superstitious?
No. *throws salt over my left shoulder while knocking twice on wood*

Writer. Feminist. Historian. Person.
Are you superstitious?
No. *throws salt over my left shoulder while knocking twice on wood*

You’re writing your autobiography. What’s your opening sentence?
When I was young I thought we had this shit figured out.
The battle wasn’t over but we had admitted that women are autonomous human creatures … yada yada yada. Sadly, madly, infuriatingly, age has shown me that a whole bunch of people continue to define a woman only as a meat sack that surrounds a baby-making box.
Not just an opening sentence — an opening salvo …

subject to your gaze
yearning to be free of you
an object no more

Thanks for the inspiration to Word of the Day Challenge (Subject) and the What Do You See Challenge
watching the days pass
spring, summer, fall, without you
a new year begins
and one more month races by
relentless and unyielding

thanks to JusJoJan for this chance to mark a sad anniversary.
The subject for today’s JusJoJan is FAMILY.
Love ’em but they drive me crazy. Yep–that’s my people.
if they are too close
but also too far away
that is family
And while we’re on the subject of family, let’s do some sharing …
Here are this week’s questions:
1. Who is your oldest living relative (aunt, grandparent etc)?
My grandma (mom’s mom) will be 104 this year.
2. How often do you visit them or is distance a factor?
She lives on the other side of the U.S. from me, so (before COVID) I’d see her a couple of times a year and about once a year in the last couple of years.
3. Have any of your family lived to be 100?
G’ma is the only one (so far) but her baby sister was in her 90s when she passed.
4. Would you like to celebrate your 100th birthday?
Maybe-if I’m as cool as my 103 year old grandmother!
