Enflamed and engorged
My heart beats a bloody red
Echoing desires
For the delights of lost nights
Or the release of found days
This Tanka was inspired by two separate challenges. First, I love the phrase “echoing desires,” which was our challenge phrase from Putting My Feet in the Dirt. Secondly, Reena’s challenge to think about perspective got me thinking about the complicated idea of desire. Desire is very much a two- (or more) sided emotion. Individually, desire can lead to ecstasy but it also can leave us searching for an escape. As a collective, one person’s delight can be another person’s nightmare. In some ways, it’s all about perspective. So, those thoughts translated as this piece. Hope you like it (or not) … cause that really is about your perspective 😉

Your prose adds a lot of depth to the poetry. ‘The release of found days’ is a beautiful expression.

Love your poem! The “release of found days” line was very beautiful to read. It was very evocative and as Phillip said the last two lines were amazing. Keep up the great work!
